Some Of NASA’s Missions
Cleaning Time!
In 1995 NASA issued a set of guidelines for the reduction of orbital debris. As well as preventing the creation of new debris, their measures involve designing satellites that can with stand the impact of small debris, another tactic was controlled re-entry, where a more accurate landing position can be calculated over uninhabited land such as the ocean where any bits that don’t decay on re-entry.
Veg-01
NASA’s plant experiment, called Veg-01, is being used to study the in-orbit function and performance of the plant growth facility and its rooting “pillows,” which contain the seeds. In 2015, 44 crew members on board the ISS ate the first space-grown food as part of an experiment known as Veg-01. Nicknamed Veggie by NASA, the result of years of work was a red romaine lettuce, and according to astronaut Scott Kelly, it tasted “good, kinda like arugula [rocket]”.
Skylab Space Station
When NASA launched Skylab the world’s first space station, in 1973 it almost became the first bar in space too. Original menu planning for the astronauts included Sherry, deemed to be the most stable type of wine because it is heated during processing. But it seemed public opinion was opposed to any wild space parties and NASA’s alcohol program came to an end.
